BLACK MONTH INFO (Feb.)

In celebrating Black History Month, USTA Texas is featuring Texas volunteers every week in February who have impacted their tennis community in positive ways. We feel that it is important to recognize volunteers who are dedicating their time to growing the game of tennis in our state. Our volunteers are a key component to making the Texas section one of the best in the country. 

USTA Texas would like you to share your stories on African Americans who have influenced you in tennis and how tennis has influenced you as a African American. These stories can be of how legendary tennis player, and Texas native, Zina Garrison inspired your playing style or how your grandmother’s assistance in getting to tennis practice always kept you active. Please use the nomination form below.

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH INFO (March)

Women have been making groundbreaking accomplishments in this twenty first century and some of those accomplishments are on the tennis courts.  USTA Texas would like you to share your stories on women who have influenced you in tennis and how tennis has influenced you. These stories can be of how legendary tennis player Billie Jean King inspired the community of females to participate in tennis or how you found important women figures in your life from playing tennis.

ARAB AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH INFO (Apr.)

Arabs can consist of Jordanians, Lebanese, Iraqis, Syrians, Egyptians, Moroccans, Palestinians, and more. USTA Texas would like you to share your stories on Arab Americans who have influenced you in tennis and how tennis has influenced you as an Arab American. These stories can be about professional Arab players current and retired like Younes El Aynaoui inspired you to pursue tennis or how sibling competition kept you in the game. 

ASIAN / PACIFIC HISTORY MONTH INFO (May)

The familiarity of racket sports in Asia is not uncommon.  USTA Texas would like you to share your stories on Asian Americans who have influenced you in tennis and how tennis has influenced you as an Asian American. These stories can be of how professional tennis player Kei Nishikori inspired your playing style or how mentors and adults assisted your tennis path.

CARIBBEAN HISTORY MONTH (June)

The Caribbean consists of over seven hundred islands, which are divided into four island groups.  USTA Texas would like you to share your stories on Caribbean Americans who have influenced you in tennis and how tennis has influenced you as a Caribbean American. These stories can be of how professional tennis player Victor Estrella Burgos inspired you to keep playing tennis regardless of age or how tennis has been an important pastime for you and your family. 

LGBT PRIDE MONTH INFO (June)

All kinds of people play tennis around the world in neighboring communities.  USTA Texas would like you to share your stories on the LGBT community who have influenced you in tennis and how tennis has influenced you as an individual. These stories can be of how legendary tennis player Martina Navratilova inspired you to play tennis through her great accomplishments in various areas of life or how tennis allow you to come close with others who share the same appreciation for the game. 

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH INFO (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15)

USTA Texas would like you to share your stories on Hispanic Americans who have influenced you in tennis and how tennis has influenced you as a Hispanic American. These stories can be of how legendary tennis player Pancho Gonzalez inspired your playing style or how your grandmother’s assistance in getting to tennis practice always kept you active.

NATIVE AMERICAN / ALASKAN MONTH INFO (Nov.)

USTA Texas would like you to share your stories on Native American and Alaskans who have influenced you in tennis and how tennis has influenced you as a Native American or Alaskan. These stories can be of how local pros and coaches like Dwayne Begay who contributed to the community with tennis or how the tennis has been a big impact in the community.
